Building a Smarter City: VISTA and DynaScan Transform Tokyo Taxi Shelters

VISTA Communications is transforming the face of outdoor advertising and public infrastructure in Tokyo with the introduction of DynaScan’s advanced outdoor kiosks at taxi shelters across the city. This initiative marks a major step forward in combining transportation efficiency, smart city development, and high-impact advertising.

Blending Infrastructure with Innovation

VISTA Communications has long been at the forefront of designing urban mobility solutions that enhance public spaces. Its managed taxi shelters—complete with benches, covered waiting areas, and barrier-free access—have become essential urban infrastructure for Tokyo residents, commuters, and visitors.

By integrating state-of-the-art digital kiosks from DynaScan, these shelters are now more than just waiting areas—they’re evolving into connected city hubs. This transformation strengthens VISTA’s position as a leader in the outdoor advertising sector across major markets in Japan, Europe, North America, and Australia.

Designed for the People, Built for the City

Managed in partnership with the Tokyo Taxi Center Public Interest Foundation, these shelters serve multiple purposes:

  • Improving Accessibility: Designed with inclusivity in mind, they provide safe, accessible waiting areas for the elderly, disabled individuals, and tourists.
  • Reducing Emissions: By creating designated taxi pick-up points, the shelters help minimize idle “cruising” and cut down on harmful vehicle emissions.
  • Enhancing Safety: They reduce sudden lane changes and hazardous maneuvers by taxis, improving overall road safety in busy areas.

With the addition of digital kiosks, these shelters also deliver real-time traffic, weather, and news updates—providing commuters with useful information while boosting the value of the advertising space.

The DynaScan Difference

The newly installed kiosks feature DynaScan’s DK Series hybrid design, purpose-built for urban environments like Tokyo.

  • On the pedestrian-facing side, a 75-inch 4K ultra-high brightness LCD with 4000 cd/m² ensures content remains visible even in direct sunlight—making it ideal for dynamic digital advertising.
  • On the road-facing side, a large illuminated poster panel measuring 1185 x 1750mm offers high-impact static advertising, adhering to Tokyo’s road safety regulations that prohibit digital displays facing traffic.

In addition to their impressive display quality, these kiosks boast IP56-rated weather and dust resistance, IK10 impact-rated protective glass, and a filterless cooling system, making them a durable, low-maintenance solution for year-round outdoor use. They also feature adaptive brightness controls, automatically adjusting to daylight and nighttime conditions—reducing light pollution and optimizing energy efficiency.

Manufactured at DynaScan’s Taoyuan, Taiwan factory, the DK Series kiosks are available in 65-inch, 75-inch, and 86-inch configurations, with options for single-sided, double-sided, and hybrid displays.

A Global Standard for Outdoor Media

These installations in Tokyo build upon DynaScan’s proven success in North America, Europe, and Australia, where its digital kiosks have become an integral part of smart city initiatives and high-profile advertising campaigns.

For VISTA Communications, the deployment of DynaScan kiosks is more than just an upgrade—it’s a vision for the future of urban media.

Looking Ahead

As demand grows for dynamic, high-visibility advertising solutions in key urban locations, VISTA Communications plans to expand its deployment of digital kiosks to transportation hubs, public facilities, and commercial complexes across Japan. This strategic growth supports the company’s mission to foster better connections between people, brands, and the cities they live in.
